Designed as a local space activator for the Centre, the experimental event acted as a platform to explore design in everyday living. Bringing together dozens of local artists, designers, food and beverage growers/producers, lifestylists and eco living thinkers, Art Lounge was the brainchild of collaborators Onkie Cheng of Locally Crafted and Marnie McKee (AKA Marnie Orr) of Filtered Events and was held over a whole weekend with a full lineup of DJs, dining experiences, kids spaces, yoga classes, tastings and talks and much more.
Image shows the roadside activator, the Selfie Lounge, designed and built by local crafter / designer Tracy Coutts with Marnie Orr, inspired by combining two infamous creative movements: that of Memphis out of Milan, an international group of artist/designers working with patterns; and the street fashion phenomenon of Harajuku in Japan.
