REAL MAKE FAKE site specific dance - commission for Ausdance WA

Real Make Fake was a commissioned piece for Ausdance WA's SeeMe Festival 2018.

The work was designed and performed by Marnie Orr as a solo piece presented alongside other performance pieces within the vicinity of the State Theatre Courtyard outdoor venue.

Real Make Fake universally addresses the role and responsibilities women play within the fashion industry as both consumers and producers of copious excess and waste. Simultaneously, the site specific dance piece speaks of the singular experience of Suffragettes' strategic use of high end fashion that had the desired effect of being taken seriously by the powers that be. The Suffragettes began wearing woollen tailored skirt suits that reinforced their unified voice, in adapting the male suit. There is a point in time where the intent of fashion shifted and that loss of accountability has bled the country dry.
